Chilling bodycam footage shows man eating ice cream hours after murdering wife

Chilling footage has emerged of the moment a man guilty of his ex-wife’s murder is arrested by police.

The video was taken hours after murderer Michael Reader shot dead his ex-partner Marion Price on December 15, 2019.

In the bodycam footage released by Northamptonshire Police, police officers find Reader, 70, unabashedly enjoying a Magnum ice cream and watching TV – despite brutally killing his wife by shooting her through the window of her car.

Mrs Price died outside a home in Earls Barton following a “controlling and abusive campaign” at the hands of Reader during their marriage.

Reader’s best friend Stephen Welch, 61, was also found guilty of murder after becoming involved in the horrific plot to kill her.

After being ordered to pay Marion £10,000 as a final divorce settlement, Reader took the decision to murder her at close range just six days later.

In the video, which shows officers arrive at his home at Booth Rise, Northampton, Reader is enjoying a gin and tonic along with a Magnum ice cream.

He was also watching the 2019 Scottish Open Snooker Final between Mark Selby and Jack Lisowksi.

After he is informed that he is being arrested for the murder of Mrs Price, he can be heard to say “what?” before feigning ignorance about the incident.

Reader visibly winces as the handcuffs are put on him, before asking the officer: “Can you fill me in? What has happened?”

Later on, the killer calmly asks the arresting officer: “When did this happen?”

Throughout the course of their marriage, Reader, formerly of Booth Rise, Northampton, had controlled and manipulated Marion.

The thug would belittle her, make derogatory comments about her appearance and turned the “fun mum” her children knew into someone who was “constantly on edge.”

On one occasion, in 2017, Reader left Marion stranded in London because she’d “embarrassed him” by daring to get up and dance at a Jersey Boys musical alongside the rest of the West End audience.

On another occasion, after their divorce was already in progress, Reader secretly installed a tracker on Marion’s car in order to “keep tabs on her”.

Welch, previously of Addlecroft Close, Northampton, also played an integral part in the murder of Marion.

He helped Reader plan it, assisted in following Marion’s movements for months prior to the shooting and helped him escape after the murder.

Welch even picked him up and helped to dispose of Reader’s clothes in the River Nene before getting rid of the murder weapon and taking his friend’s mobile phone.

Thinking he had got away with it, Welch fled to Alicante before police arrested him on his return from Spain.

Reader was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 31 years and Welch was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 27 years.
